Royce Clifton Hembree, age 62, of Houston, Alabama passed away Friday, May 4,
2007, at his residence.
Mr. Hembree was employed for many years in both the
commercial and residential areas of heating and air conditioning. He also spent
several years in service with the East Baton Rouge Parish Sheriff’s office in
Louisiana and served honorably in the U.S. Air Force during the Viet Nam era.
Funeral services will be held Wednesday, May 9, 2007, 11:00 a.m. at the
Graveside in Houston Baptist Church Cemetery. Rev Glenn Bridgeman will
officiate. A United States Air Force detail will provide military honors.

Mrs. Dorothy Dean Pifer Jones died from heart failure May 6, 2007 at UAB
Hospital. Born Oct. 11, 1921 in Sullivan, IL, she and her mother and brother
moved to Haleyville, AL in 1925. Married to Robert Noble Jones of Reform, AL in
1948, she lived in Florence until recently.
She is survived by four children: J. Michael G. Jones of N. Fort Myers, FL;
Mildred B. Haworth of Wichita, KS; Robert Stanley Jones of Haleyville, AL; and
Eric A. Jones of St. Florian.

She was born Nov. 8, 1917, in the Splunge community in Monroe County to the late
Charlie Roberts and Lonnie Belle Lee. She attended Greenwood Springs School and
was an active member of East Amory Baptist Church before moving to Home Place.
Before retiring to Amory, she lived in Zion, Ill., where she worked at Fire
Guard in Northbrook, Ill. After retirement she lived in Amory for several years,
where she enjoyed church activities, gardening and visiting with relatives and
friends.
Services will be at 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 15, 2007, at the Otts Funeral Home
Chapel in Sulligent, AL. Burial will be in the Wesley Chapel Cemetery near
Detroit, AL.
Visitation will be from 11 a.m. until service time on Tuesday at the funeral
home.

Franks Russell. She was a graduate of Florence State Teachers College, taught in
a one room school in Columbus, Miss., for many years, and taught at Winfield
Elementary School for 42 years. She was an active member of the Winfield Church
of Christ and was also a member of Delta Kappa Gamma and Book Lover’s Club.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Mack McCaleb; four sisters; and three brothers.

Rev. J. Duane Taylor, age 65, of Muscle Shoals, went home to Heaven on May 22,
2007, after a brief illness. Rev. Taylor was the pastor of South Highland Free
Will Baptist Church for the past 21 years.

Mrs. Esta Lee Shirey Parr, age 93 of Montgomery, formerly of Winfield, passed
away Saturday, May 19, 2007 in the Jackson Hospital in Montgomery.
Mrs. Parr was born on January 18, 1914 in Marion Co. a daughter of James T. and
Olivia Markham Shirey; resident of Winfield most of her life; resident of
Montgomery past 7 years; widow of Murphy Roy “Murph” Parr who died June 27,
1988; retired as a Dietician at Winfield Hospital; member of Zion Missionary
Baptist Church; and attended Thorington Road Baptist Church in Montgomery.
In addition to her husband and parents, she was preceded in death by a son,
Thomas Joseph “Joe” Parr; two great-grandchildren, Tyler Vaughn and Katelyn
Stovall; and a sister, Eulitha Shirey.
Survivors include one son, James Royce “Jimmy” (Linda) Parr of Winfield; three
daughters, Joyce Dickinson of Montgomery, Deborah (Nathan) Watson of Pike Road
and Anne Weed of Columbus, GA; eleven grandchildren; nineteen
great-grandchildren; special niece, Judy Self; and other relatives.

Westbrook and Annette Barnett Westbrook; resident of Winfield most of her life;
resident of Guin for past 6 years; previously employed at Winfield Cotton Mill
and Clifford Industries in Winfield.

Annette Harris; granddaughter, Courtney Brooke Benton; and great-granddaughter,

Calvin Coolidge McDonald, age 82 of Moulton (formerly of
Winfield), died Monday, May 7, 2007 at NHC Healthcare in Moulton. Mr. McDonald
was born June 15, 1924 in Fayette County to Walter Russell McDonald and Mary
Frances Erwin McDonald. He was a resident of Zephryhills, FL for 26 years before
moving back to the Siloam Community in Fayette County in 1989. He was a graduate
of Winfield High School and Auburn University; retired from FHA and was a
salesman with Red Hat Feeds in Decatur. Calvin was a WWII Navy veteran, a member
of Winfield Masonic Lodge #304, and a member of Winfield Church of Christ.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by two brothers, R.G. and
Howard McDonald; and his wife, Erdine Langston McDonald who passed away February
27, 1999.
He is survived by two sons, Gary (Bonnie) McDonald of Moulton, Larry (Rosie)
McDonald of Naples, FL; a sister, Mrs. Jewiel Williamson of Houston, TX; seven
grandchildren, Donna Narmore, Jeremy Lee, Deana Millwood, Kelli McDonald,

Emma J. “Gimmer” Gilbreath, 67, Guin, passed away on Saturday, May 19, 2007, at
the Golden Living Center in Winfield, AL.
A native of Guin, AL, she was born Aug. 15, 1939, she was the daughter of the late James Wiley and Beulah
Mae Knight Green, Guin. She was a life-long resident of Guin. "Gimmer" was
a loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. The highlight of Gimmer's
day was spending time with her granddaughters and great granddaughters. She
loved wrestling, crossword puzzles, a good western on tv and last but not least
Elvis Presley.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by daughter, Carolyn Jean
Chaney; brothers, James, Grady, and Roy Green; and sisters, Margie Keith, Jimmie
Nell Hayes, Louvadie Miles, and Lois Cobb.

He was an avid traveler and was a member of Shoals Sams Camping Club. He was
also a member of the Double Springs Hunting Club.

Baptist Church, Russellville, and the Pritchard Sunday School class.

as well as the four private caregivers who have watched over Harry and loved him

He was a lifelong resident of Franklin County and a member of Rockwood Baptist
Church. He was a 1964 graduate of Russellville High School and a member of the
Russellville National Guard for six years.

Bob was owner and operator of Grissom Car Wash in downtown Russellville for many
years. He, along with his wife, Judy, and son, David, owned and operated Diamond
House Jewelry in Russellville for 24 years. Presently, he and his son, David,
own Alabama Gun & Pawn in Russellville, Alabama Title & Pawn, in Haleyville,
Alabama Title Pawn in Moulton and Red Bay, Alabama Super Pawn, in Sheffield, and
Cash Spot, in Russellville.
Brother Robert Reed Grissom was a member of Russellville Masonic Lodge No. 371.
He became a Master Mason on Sept. 11, 1975. He was elected Master of
Russellville Lodge No. 371 in June 1978 and served until June 1979.
He also enjoyed the outdoors. Most recently, he enjoyed the deer hunting trips,
the pheasant hunting trips to South Dakota, trap shooting, fishing and boating
on Little Bear Lake with his son, family and friends.
Mr. Grissom received a special gift from God on July 15, 2005. A granddaughter,
Kate Reed Grissom, named after his mother.
He is survived by his wife of 38 years, Judy Keeton Grissom, Russellville, Ala.;
son, David Reed Grissom and wife, Melissa, Russellville, Ala.; granddaughter,
