Mrs. McCarley was a wonderful daughter, wife, mother, sister, tutor, and friend. She was highly active in her churches, her husband's work activities, and children's schools.
In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her son, Lyndel T. "Butch" McCarley, Jr. and his wife, Linda Sterbenz McCarley.
A native of Sugar Bend, Alabama, and a long-time resident of Millburn and Zion, Illinois, Mrs. McCarley was a daughter of the late Smith and Lois Pearce Gann.
She is survived by her loving husband of 57 years, Lyndel T. McCarley, Sr., who has been a caring and passionate caregiver over the past several years. Surviving family members include her sister, Doris Guntharp and her husband, J. C. of Tilden, MS.; her brother, George Gann and his wife, Doris, of Fulton, MS.; two sons, Tim and his wife, Jody, of Senatobia, MS. and Robin and his wife, Tracy, of Prairieville, LA.; grandchildren and spouses, Chris and Leah Nieman, Rob and Sarah Nieman, Thomas McCarley, Jason McCarley, Sidney McCarley, Nathan McCarley, Rachel McCarley, and Megan Ann McCarley; great-grandchildren, Jade McCarley, Steven Holland, Jaxon Harbin, Luke Nieman, and Natalie Nieman, and a large group of nieces and nephews and their spouses and children.

Buren Ballard, 88, of Bay, Arkansas, died Monday afternoon, December 29, 2008,
at his home. He was born December 11, 1920, in Hodges, Alabama but had lived
most of his life in Bay, AR. He was a member of the Bay First Baptist Church
where he served as deacon. At one time he was the chair of the deacons. He also
enjoyed fishing, hunting, and loved farming; loved the smell of the dirt. Mr.
Ballard was a World War II Army veteran.
He is survived by his
daughters and son-in-law, Linda & Charles Ballard Glass, Jonesboro, AR., Sherry
Ballard Liggett, Bay, AR.; a sister, Mary Lou Ballard Williams and her husband
Johnny, San Angelo, Texas; grandchildren, Melissa Rebstock, David Glass, Amber
Stone, April Liggett; great grandchildren, Jared Stover, Skye Stover, Caitlyn
Glass, and Gibson Glass.
He was preceded in death by his wife, Hazel Ballard and his parents, Ben Harris
& Melissa Nichols Ballard.
Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, December 31, 2008, at 10:00 a.m. at
the Bay First Baptist Church with Brother Danny Taylor officiating. Emerson
Funeral Home is in charge of arrangements. Burial will take place on Friday,
January 2, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. at the Mt. Carmel Cemetery (Map) in Hodges, Alabama.

Jack was born July 26, 1931 in Baltimore, MD to John and Christine Lakeman. He
served in the United States Air Force during the Korean War, was a graduate of
the University of Alabama, had a lifelong love of flying, the shooting sports
and the outdoors. He started several successful businesses, and was a member of
First Methodist Church in Haleyville, Alabama.
Jack is survived by wife, Sylvia Davis Lakeman; 2 sons, Kirk Prideaux Lakeman of
Marietta, GA., and Dan McDurmont Lakeman of Haleyville, AL.; 5 grandchildren;

and was a graduate of the University of Southern Mississippi in Hattiesburg, MS.
He worked for many years in Radio and Journalism.

veteran of the U.S. Army and was a member of the American Legion in Aberdeen,
MS. Mr. Jones was previously employed by McCoy Mfg. and Walker Mfg. He enjoyed
hunting, fishing and raising hogs.

in death by his parents, John C. Robertson and Elizabeth Nuckols Robertson.
Beloved father, son, brother, and husband, Bob was uncomplicated, honest, and
caring. His daily walks in the woods, embracing God's creation, expressed
perfectly the embodiment of his spirit. He was passionate about music, nature,
and Ole Miss. Those who knew him were truly blessed.
He is survived by his wife, Cathy Lyons Robertson, of Fayette, AL.; daughters,
Margaret Caitlin (Maggie) and Kelly Crichton, students at the University of
Mississippi in Oxford, MS, and Mary Catherine (M.C.) student at Appalachian

Mrs. McCarley was born on July 3, 1919 in Lamar County, Alabama to the late
Marlin and Mary Jane Noe Seals. She was married to the late Aubrey McCarley.
Mrs. McCarley was a member of the Sulligent First Baptist Church where she
served on the Special Needs Committee for years. She was also a member of the
Young at Hearts group and the Dorcas Sunday School class. She and her husband
owned and operated McCarley’s Cleaners in Sulligent for 40 years. Mrs. McCarley
enjoyed yard work and sewing.
She is survived by 1 daughter, Barbara (Jimmy Paul) Reeves, Sulligent, AL 2

Pond, Alabama, passed away Friday, January 30, 2009 at Trinity Medical Center in
Birmingham.
Hunt has been battling cancer for several years.
Alabama's first Republican governor since Reconstruction, Hunt served as governor of Alabama from 1987-1993.

Harold Guy Hunt was born June 17, 1933, in the Cullman County farming community
of Holly Pond, Alabama. His parents were William Otto and Frances Holcombe Hunt.
At an early age, Hunt joined the Mt. Vernon Primitive Baptist Church, and church
and home became critical influences in his life. Salutatorian of his high school
class, he graduated from Holly Pond High School, and less than a year out of
high school, at only 17 years of age, on February 25, 1951, he married his high
school sweetheart, Helen Chambers. The couple would have four children. Hunt
continued his family's farming tradition at this time. During the Korean War,
Hunt served in both the 101st Airborne and the First Infantry divisions of the
U.S. Army and earned a certificate of achievement for outstanding performance of
military duty and the distinguished service medal. After his military service,
Hunt returned to his family farm at Holly Pond and in 1958 was formally ordained
as a minister in the Primitive Baptist Church. Hunt’s wife of 53 years, former
First Lady Helen Hunt, died on Nov. 22, 2004, after battling pulmonary fibrosis.
Hunt married longtime family friend Anne Smith of Adamsville in October 2005.
Hunt is survived by his wife, Anne Smith Hunt; 1 son, Keith Hunt; and 3
daughters, Pam Hunt, Sherrie Williams and Lynn Harris.
Funeral arrangements have not been announced but will be published as soon as
they are available.

Mr. Roscoe Salters, age 83, of Vernon, Alabama, passed away Saturday, January
31, 2009 at the residence.
Funeral service, Thursday, February 5, 2009 at 1:00 P.M. from the Otts Funeral
Home Chapel followed by a graveside service with military honors in the Shiloh
Cemetery. Visitation, Wednesday evening, February 4, 2009, at the funeral home
from 6:00 until 8:00 P.M.
Mr. Salters was born July 31, 1925 in Lowndes County, MS, to the late Shed and
Mattie Coleman Salters. He was married to the late Olean Pennington Salters. Mr.
Salters was a member of the Westside Church of Christ. He enjoyed gardening and
interacting with people.
He is survived by 3 sons, Larry (Donna) Salters, Lathonia, GA., Jerry (Sarah)
Salters, Vernon, AL., Ronnie (Alfreda) Salters, Olive Branch, MS., 5 daughters,
Sarah (Matt) Burton, Tuscaloosa, AL., Martha (Eime) Ekandem, Rex, GA., Shirley
Salters, Vernon, AL., Janet Salters, Stone Mountain, GA., Sandra Salters,
Kennesaw, GA., 18 grandchildren; 8 great-grandchildren; several nieces, nephews
and other relatives and friends.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Shed and Mattie Coleman Salters; his
wife, Olean Pennington Salters; 1 grand daughter; 1 grandson; 1 great-grandson;
4 brothers; and 2 sisters.

James A. Miles, age 64, of Guin, Alabama, passed away Tuesday, January 20, 2009
in the Golden Living Center in Winfield, AL.
Funeral service, Thursday, January 22, 2009 at 1:00 p.m. from the Norwood
Funeral Home Chapel with burial in the Guin City Cemetery. Mr. Bill Rayburn and
Mr. W.T. Allison officiating.
Born in Fayette, AL. He is the son of the late Henry and Lessie Duckworth Miles.
He had lived in Guin most of his life, was owner and operator of Miles Plumbing
and Electric Company and was a member of the Guin Church Of Christ.
He is survived by 1 daughter, Stacie (Eddie) Enlow of Monroe, LA..; 2
grandchildren, Madeline and Matthew Enlow; 2 sisters, Willie Boozer of Columbus,
MS., and Dorothy Whitley of Fayette, AL.; and 1 brother, Danny Miles of Fayette,
AL.; and several nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Henry and Lessie Duckworth Miles; and 2
Sisters, Mary Shaw and Helen Edmonson.
